As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for their Week 1 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, the team faces an additional challenge beyond the field: international travel and Patrick Mahomes had to explain to Travis Kelce just how big a task it is.
The NFL’s lone game in Sao Paulo, Brazil, requires an extensive journey, and even seasoned teammates need a geography refresher before boarding the plane as the team travels an astonishing 5359 miles away.
“The trainers and coaches have really done the research,” Mahomes said. “And they understand what we need to do, so now it’s just going down there and playing football.
“I think more than anything it’s just explaining to some guys how far the trip was. Some guys didn’t understand how far the travel was.
“Travis, even though he was just down there last year, I was explaining to him how the globe works.”
Although tight end Travis is frequently on the move due to his football career and personal life with Taylor Swift, Mahomes‘ remark highlighted a playful perception that veteran is not always the most geographically minded.
The journey from Kansas City to Sao Paulo takes roughly 11 hours, whilst the Chargers must endure an even longer flight from Los Angeles, adding another layer of complexity to the game’s logistics.
Kelce buys into himbo stereotype despite successes
Despite the jest, Kelce is well aware of his public persona and embraces it with humor as over his career, the All-Pro tight end has been subjected to various stereotypes, particularly the “himbo” label.
This is one that he addresses with good-natured self-awareness as he laughs off talks that he’s not as smart as the likes of Albert Einstein, although he remains supremely successful through his athletic talents.
“I find it funny,” Kelce said in an interview with GQ. “I joke about it. It is what it is. I’m just out here living life. I don’t necessarily want everyone to think that I’m an idiot.
“There’s always something to learn. Acting like you’re the smartest one in the room just isn’t the way to go.”
Outside the field and television, Kelce continues to expand his business and personal ventures. He co-hosted the “New Heights” podcast with his brother Jason to promote Taylor Swift‘s upcoming 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl.
Kelce is also partnering with Mahomes to open 1587 Prime Luxury Steakhouse, highlighting their off-field camaraderie and business acumen.
In addition, Kelce recently became engaged to Swift after a private proposal at his Leawood mansion in Kansas City, marking a new chapter in his personal life.
While the Chiefs focus on their game preparation in Brazil, Kelce‘s ability to combine humor, self-awareness, and ambition continues to define his identity both on and off the field.
