After a three-game win streak, it seemed like the Kansas City Chiefs had turned their season around. They were sitting at 5-3 and in a playoff spot, but there was a tough stretch of games coming up. It turned out to be tougher than they expected, as the Chiefs have lost four of their last five games.
They’re currently in 10th place in the AFC, two games behind the Houston Texans in the final Wild Card spot. With only four games left in the season, Kansas City needs to win out and get help if they want to make the playoffs. Many are still holding out hope that they can pull it off, but even Patrick Mahomes is acting as if it’s impossible; which is concerning considering he’s usually extremely positive.
Patrick Mahomes admits odds are “not high” Chiefs make the playoffs
During practice this week ahead of the Chiefs’ game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Mahomes delivered gloomy quotes, sounding more defeated than ever.

Travis Kelce was equally as defeated during his recent “New Heights” episode. Kelce places a lot of the blame for the Chiefs’ struggles on himself. In reality, the team simply has too many flaws and the ball isn’t bouncing their way like it did in years past.
Kelce coming back for another season had Kansas City’s hopes and expectations very high coming into 2025. But it’s been an overall disaster considering their previous success. Mahomes knows it. Kelce knows it. In what may be Kelce’s final season, the Chiefs simply haven’t given him a hero’s goodbye.
