Patrick Mahomes gets unexpected backup from Tom Brady slamming NFL broadcasters for cheap shots

Picture this: Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs’ superstar quarterback, is on the verge of achieving NFL immortality. If he had clinched a fourth Super Bowl in seven seasons and pulled off the league’s first-ever three-peat in Super Bowl 59, the offseason buzz would have been deafening. Has Mahomes already surpassed Tom Brady as the greatest of all time? At 29 years old, Mahomes is young and electric. He is chasing Brady’s towering legacy of seven Super Bowl titles, 251 career wins, and 649 passing touchdowns. However, the Eagles had other plans, handing the Chiefs a crushing defeat in the championship game.

Mahomes now has three Super Bowl wins, the same number Tom Brady had after his seventh season. The similarities in their early careers are striking, especially when considering Brady’s gut-wrenching loss in Super Bowl XLII during his seventh season, when the Giants shattered New England’s perfect 18-0 dream. They are two legends with two eerily similar stumbles, and yet the story is far from over.

Tom Brady Defends Patrick Mahomes and NFL Players

Tom Brady, a Fox broadcaster now in his second year, isn’t joining the pile-on after Mahomes’s latest setback. In an interview with Complex Sports, he made it clear that he doesn’t plan on bashing the Chiefs’ quarterback-or any NFL player-from the booth. “How can I rip someone as incredible as Mahomes is?” Brady said. “I’ve been in his shoes.” With 23 seasons under his belt, Brady is familiar with the grind and scrutiny that come with the game. He’s sending a loud message to his fellow broadcasters and analysts: Stop obsessing over flaws, stirring up drama, and tearing players down.

Instead, focus on the craft, the effort, and the stories worth telling. Having faced his share of criticism from commentators-most of which he probably tuned out-Brady understands how punishing the NFL can be. How can you criticize a player who gives his all in training, maintains a position in a competitive league, and contends with a bench full of eager backups? Sure, players make mistakes, and those errors sting for teams and fans alike. But, as Brady reminds us, they’re human, and the world keeps spinning.

“It’s a high level of skill. You’re looking at any of the 32 teams who have a starting quarterback out there. That guy is one of the best in the world at what he does.” Brady added.

Mahomes and Brady: A Tale of Two Careers

So, how do these two compare? Brady is the undisputed GOAT, with a résumé that may never be matched. Mahomes, however, has time on his side and a chance to close the gap-or even surpass Brady. Statistically, they’re neck-and-neck early on. Mahomes boasts a 106-27 record through his first 133 starts, mirroring Brady’s 104-29 record over the same period. Both stepped out from behind veteran backups to win three titles quickly-Brady in four years and Mahomes in six. Their losses, however, tell different stories.

Brady’s three Super Bowl losses (out of 10 appearances) were close, totaling a 15-point margin, including a 505-yard performance against the Eagles in 2017. Mahomes’s two losses? More brutal, with a combined deficit of 40 points. It’s an interesting statistic, but Brady isn’t worried about it. He’d rather we let Mahomes weave his magic without the weight of constant comparisons. We marveled at Brady’s journey, so why not savor Mahomes’ journey the same way?
