Patrick Mahomes’ father makes shock admission about John Rocker altercation

Patrick Mahomes Sr. has admitted that his widely discussed scuffle with former MLB pitcher John Rocker in New Orleans was nothing more than a publicity stunt.

According to court documents, the father of the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback made the revelation on Feb. 13 while being questioned about his trip to Super Bowl LIX.

A fight for publicity, not a feud

Mahomes Sr., who is currently on probation following a third DWI conviction, was granted permission to travel to Louisiana from Feb. 7 to Feb. 10 to watch his son compete.

However, after the incident with Rocker and a missed urine test on Feb. 11, officials began looking into his activities.

To avoid further trouble, Mahomes Sr. admitted that the fight was prearranged as part of the buildup for an upcoming celebrity boxing event.

The match, scheduled for April 2025, is part of Barstool Sports’ “Rough N Rowdy” series. Court documents included a contract dated Jan. 17, proving that Mahomes Sr. had agreed to face Rocker in the ring long before their supposed street altercation.

After missing his initial drug test, Mahomes Sr. completed one on Feb. 12, which came back negative. While he avoided any immediate legal action, a judge warned him that further missteps could lead to probation revocation.

Financially, the fight could be lucrative, with Mahomes Sr. set to make a minimum of $85,000, with the potential for significantly higher earnings based on Pay-Per-View sales. Meanwhile, Rocker has claimed that Mahomes II and his camp are trying to withdraw Mahomes Sr. from the fight, though the Super Bowl-winning quarterback has yet to publicly comment on the situation.

With the staged nature of the incident now exposed, the controversy raises questions about the extent to which public figures will go to generate buzz-especially in the world of celebrity boxing.
