Patrick Mahomes’ father gets special permission to see son in person

Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, has received court approval to travel from Texas to Las Vegas to attend his son’s high-profile charity golf event.

The permission, granted as part of the conditions of his probation, allows Mahomes Sr. to support the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation-a charitable organization led by his son that is dedicated to improving the lives of children through health, wellness, and educational programs.

The elder Mahomes had to seek formal approval due to his ongoing legal situation stemming from a felony DWI conviction earlier in 2024. In that case, Mahomes Sr. pleaded guilty to his third driving while intoxicated charge and was sentenced to five years of supervised probation.

The terms of his plea deal also required him to spend 10 days in jail and included a one-year suspension of his driver’s license.

As part of his probationary requirements, Mahomes Sr. must request permission for any travel outside of the state. According to court documents, he submitted the request earlier this month, and it was officially approved on May 7.

The approved dates for travel are from Wednesday through Sunday, aligning with the schedule of the charity golf tournament, which will take place at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas.

A chance for redemption through family and philanthropy

While the past year has presented personal challenges for Mahomes Sr., this travel opportunity symbolizes a step forward. It also emphasizes the importance of family and second chances. His son’s foundation, 15 and the Mahomies, has been widely recognized for its commitment to uplifting underserved youth and promoting positive change.

The golf event is expected to attract numerous athletes and celebrities, and Mahomes Sr.’s presence adds a personal layer of meaning to the gathering.

To comply with his legal obligations, Mahomes Sr. is required to submit a drug test shortly after returning from Las Vegas. Records indicate that he is scheduled to take a urine test on May 19 to ensure ongoing compliance with the conditions of his probation.

Despite past legal troubles, Mahomes Sr. continues to show public support for his son’s success-both on the field and in philanthropic efforts.

His approved travel signals that while his legal situation remains serious, the justice system is allowing space for him to participate in meaningful, family-centered activities that contribute to the greater good.

The event in Las Vegas is not just a celebrity charity golf outing-it represents hope, accountability, and the enduring strength of family ties.
