Patrick Mahomes doesn’t need to back himself with words, pundit claims

When the Kansas City Chiefs drafted Patrick Mahomes in 2017, few could have predicted just how monumental that decision would become.

Fast forward a few years, and Mahomes isn’t just a franchise quarterback, he’s the catalyst behind the Chiefs‘ rise from a perennial playoff presence to a legitimate NFL dynasty.

While Mahomes‘ numbers dazzle, with over 28,000 passing yards and more than 220 touchdowns in just six seasons, it’s his influence on the culture, confidence, and ceiling of the franchise that truly sets him apart.

Mahomes turns contenders into champions

Before Mahomes took over in 2018, the Chiefs had already become a consistent playoff team under head coach Andy Reid and veteran quarterback Alex Smith. Yet postseason success eluded them. That changed almost immediately after Mahomes was handed the reins.

Since becoming the starter, Mahomes has led Kansas City to six consecutive AFC Championship Games, five Super Bowl appearances, and three Super Bowl titles. His ability to dominate both statistically and situationally under pressure has made the Chiefs the NFL’s gold standard.

And his rise hasn’t gone unnoticed by Chiefs Kingdom.

“No offense to Alex Smith, love the guy, but Mahomes deserves the credit for turning us from a playoff team into a dynasty,” said long-time Chiefs fan Cole DeRuse on the How ‘Bout Those Chiefs podcast.

That sentiment is shared by many in the fanbase who witnessed the transformation unfold in real-time.

DeRuse went on to describe Mahomes‘ ability to elevate everyone around him, stating: “His presence changes everything. From the play-calling to the confidence of the team, you can tell he believes every game is winnable.”

Indeed, Mahomes has made the extraordinary feel routine. Whether it’s rallying from double-digit deficits in playoff games or throwing no-look passes that defy logic, his brand of football feels more like artistry than execution. And it’s this consistency in brilliance that continues to redefine the Chiefs.

A new NFL era defined by Mahomes

Mahomes‘ influence stretches far beyond the field. His leadership style, measured, encouraging, and unselfish, has become a model for young quarterbacks. Despite the frequent rotation of receivers, changing offensive lines, and pressure of expectations, he maintains poise and delivers results.

With each passing season, Mahomes makes a stronger case for inclusion among the all-time greats. At just 29 years old, he’s already surpassed many Hall of Famers in playoff wins and postseason production. And perhaps most importantly, he’s made Kansas City a perennial championship destination.

Cole DeRuse summed it up: “It’s not just about winning games anymore – it’s about legacy. And Mahomes is building one right in front of our eyes.”
