As the 2025 NFL offseason unfolds, Patrick Mahomes is not just preparing for another shot at the Super Bowl, he’s also balancing life as a father of three after welcoming Golden Raye in January. But why is he focusing on his two older children instead of his infant?
In a recent interview, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback offered a rare glimpse into his home life, explaining why most of his time has been dedicated to his older children, Sterling and Bronze, rather than newborn daughter Golden Raye.
Golden, born on January 12, arrived just as the Chiefs were intensifying preparations for their postseason run and that means his time for the young girl was naturally limited as he focused on facing the Houston Texans.
That dynamic, it seems, has carried into the offseason-not because of neglect, but because of a shared understanding between Patrick and his wife of three years, Brittany.
“Brittany gets to take care of Golden now. And I’ve actually, in this offseason, been able to spend a lot of time with my two other kids,” Mahomes said on Up & Adams.
Far from avoiding his role as a parent, Mahomes has embraced a different responsibility by dedicating time to Sterling and Bronze, aged three and two respectively, who perhaps need it more as they enter key developmental years.
Golden Raye, being so young, still has to experience infant amnesia and as Brittany handles the intensive care needs of her, Patrick makes sure he covered his other two kids.
Sterling and Bronze, now energetic toddlers, require significant attention. They are beginning to speak, engage socially, and form their first true bonds with the world around them. Mahomes, understanding the importance of this phase, is choosing to be fully present for these moments.
“Whenever she’s doing nap time or doing bedtime, that means dad’s two-on-one going out there,” he noted, highlighting how Brittany‘s care for Golden creates natural opportunities for him to bond with the older two.
This isn’t just circumstantial-it’s strategic. Brittany, aware of Golden‘s high-needs phase, is reportedly content with the arrangement, trusting Patrick to take the lead with Sterling and Bronze.
Their parenting model is one of flexibility and mutual understanding, tailored to the needs of each child, proving how both parents are happy to put themselves second for their kids.
“It’s been a lot of fun,” Patrick added. “The kids are getting older now. They really enjoy sports.
“They enjoy music, and it’s cool to see their interest and try to go out and maximize those.”
Chiefs aim to fight back in 2025/26 NFL season
Despite Brittany taking the lead with Golden to allow Patrick Mahomes to focus on his NFL Playoffs push with the Kansas City Chiefs, the season ended in disappointment for the 29-year-old football player.
The Chiefs suffered a devastating 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, a game in which Mahomes faced relentless pressure from Philadelphia’s defense and was sacked six times on the night.
Now, as the focus shifts to the 2025-26 season, Mahomes appears driven to rebound, looking to bring glory back to the Arrowhead Stadium and to avenge that crushing February 9 loss.
