Patrick Beverly played in the NBA for the Los Angeles Clippers, the Chicago Bulls, the Houston Rockets among others, where he built a reputation as a fierce, tough, and relentlessly competitive player who always gave everything to the teams whose colors he defended.

The 37-year-old was arrested in Fort Bend County, Texas, after being charged with a third-degree aggravated assault involving a family member. According to statements reported and obtained by several media outlets, the intense and polarizing former NBA guard assaulted a member of his own family by preventing them from breathing.

According to the outlet TMZ, Beverly posted a $40,000 bond, which allowed for his immediate release. He remains widely remembered in the NBA for his gritty style, an approach that often electrified the professional courts where he had the chance to compete.

However, because of his long-standing reputation for intensity, the incident created considerable confusion, according to his attorney, Letitia Quinones-Hollins, who used her X account to issue a formal statement addressing the situation.

Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister – a young lady, a minor.”… “Given that, when he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister.

A confusion that spread like wildfire over the incident involving Patrick Beverly

With that information, many initially believed that Beverly had assaulted the man who was with his sister. However, the official statement clarified that the person he was choking was a member of his own family. The charge listed was: Assault Family/Household Impeding Breath in the third degree.

This revelation intensified the reaction online. Internet users turned sharply against the former player, pointing out that he had attacked his own younger sister, Mya, who is 18 years old, instead of directing his actions toward the man he believed to be a potential threat. Despite the uproar, Beverly’s attorney did not clarify additional details about the exact sequence of events or the context surrounding the incident.

We don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described, and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court.

Added the statement released by Beverly’s lawyer, emphasizing their confidence that the legal process will allow them to dispute the narrative that has quickly circulated in public discussions.
