Paige Spiranac swaps green for purple at Augusta but can’t stop being insulted

Paige Spiranac, one of the most recognizable names in golf media, stirred social media once more this week with a bold and unmistakably personal take on Masters Week.

Known for her mix of golf knowledge, glamour, and confidence, Spiranac’s latest tribute to Augusta National quickly attracted widespread attention-and its fair share of backlash.

On Monday, the former professional golfer-turned-influencer posted a provocative image on Instagram to celebrate the beginning of the 2025 Masters Tournament.

Wearing just green athletic shorts and covering her chest with a loosely draped blazer reminiscent of the tournament’s iconic Green Jacket, she captioned the photo: “The best week in golf has arrived. Who’s your pick to win the Green Jacket?”

As is often the case with Spiranac, the post split opinion. While many fans praised her for blending tradition with her signature style, others criticized the move, suggesting it undermined the prestige of one of golf’s most revered tournaments.

A familiar face at Augusta, even under tight restrictions

Despite the controversies that sometimes follow her, Spiranac is a regular attendee at Augusta National. However, the Masters is unlike any other sporting event when it comes to access and media coverage.

With phones and cameras strictly prohibited during play, content creators are limited in how much they can share from inside the grounds.

Last year, Spiranac addressed those restrictions directly on social media, writing: “Been having the best time ever at the Masters! Sorry I haven’t been as active. It’s hard when you can’t bring your phone, but I can’t wait to update you guys later!”

Still, her consistent presence at the tournament has helped her maintain credibility with a broader golf audience, even as some traditionalists remain critical of her image-driven brand.

Crossing into mainstream media

Spiranac’s reach now extends beyond the golf course and Instagram. She’s slated to appear in the upcoming Happy Gilmore sequel on Netflix, a project that brings together nostalgic comedy and modern media talent.

Her cameo in the film continues her steady crossover into entertainment, following a trajectory that has already seen her land major brand deals, podcasting gigs, and widespread recognition outside of sports.

Her transition from golfer to full-fledged celebrity is a rare one in the industry, particularly for a woman navigating both the spotlight and the constant scrutiny that comes with it.

Unapologetically Paige

Criticism is nothing new for Spiranac. Over the years, she’s faced repeated pushback for the way she presents herself online, often from those who view her style as incompatible with the sport’s traditions.

But she’s always countered that narrative by advocating for inclusion, authenticity, and a broader definition of what golf can represent.

Even amid the buzz surrounding her Masters Week post, Spiranac stayed true to form-unapologetic, confident, and ready to engage with her fans regardless of what critics might say. For many, her presence adds a modern energy to a game steeped in tradition.

Whether or not one agrees with her approach, there’s no denying that Paige Spiranac continues to be one of the sport’s most talked-about figures-at Augusta and beyond.
