Paige Spiranac has become one of the most recognizable personalities in golf, but her popularity has often come with criticism. The former professional golfer and social media star regularly finds herself at the center of discussions about her on-course outfits, with some critics arguing that her clothing choices are too revealing for the sport.
However, Spiranac says there’s a much more personal reason behind the way she dresses when she plays. For her, it has always been about feeling comfortable and confident rather than trying to make a statement.
The golf influencer, who has built a following of more than four million fans across various platforms, explained that her approach to golf fashion comes from her background in gymnastics.
Before making the switch to golf, Spiranac spent years as a competitive gymnast, where wearing tight athletic clothing was simply part of the sport.
When she first started playing golf, she wasn’t in a position to spend money on a completely new wardrobe. Instead, she relied on the workout clothes she already owned, which included athletic tops and fitted clothing that she felt comfortable wearing.
“That was always my mindset when I got into golf, and it really rubs people the wrong way which is shocking,” said Spiranac.
“They’ll have really intense discussions over if they should wear shorts or pants or a blade collar or a real collar and I’m just out here just in tank tops or spandex and people are like ‘What are you doing?’ But I love it.
She believes comfort plays an important role in performance and that golfers should be able to enjoy the game while feeling like themselves.
Spiranac warns millions of fans about online scams
Spiranac’s online presence has also created another challenge: impersonators using her name to target fans. With millions of followers across platforms including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and X, she has become a frequent target for fake accounts and online scammers.
The golf personality recently issued a warning to her followers, telling them not to trust anyone pretending to be her or asking for money.
“I have so many people impersonating me online. It’s out of control and I know I’m not the only one. You shouldn’t be allowed to make an account pretending to be someone else. Please do not talk to anyone claiming to be me. I will NEVER ask for money or ask to chat somewhere else like Telegram. Please be safe out there,” she wrote.
Her warning comes as she continues dealing with unwanted attention surrounding her public image. Spiranac has previously spoken about taking breaks from social media after facing criticism and pressure, admitting that online negativity sometimes affected her confidence and motivation.
She has also pushed back against people who claim her content is only focused on her appearance.
Spiranac regularly posts golf instruction videos and other content that highlights her knowledge of the game, but she says those posts often receive less attention than discussions about her outfits.
Despite the criticism, Spiranac continues to embrace her role in modern golf.
