The most likely scenario now is that Paige Bueckers will be drafted by the Dallas Wings as the No.1 pick, and she will compete with the likes of Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese to be the biggest young star in the WNBA.
There is already a suggestion, though, that the former Connecticut Huskies star could be given a much easier ride than Clark got once she’s in the WNBA.
Clark really did get the ‘rookie treatment’ during her early months with the Indiana Fever, where many senior players on other teams seemed to take issue with how much fame she was enjoying and they gave her some very rough treatment.
That may not be the case for Bueckers, for one very specific reason. She recently took part in an Ally Bank commercial, and the chemistry between her and senior WNBA players Breanna Stewart and Sydney Colson was clear for all to see.
Things were different for Clark
If she is making friendships before even being drafted, she could be treated a lot more kindly than Clark was.
“For those of you wondering if Paige’s acceptance into the WNBA will be different that Caitlin’s,” a tweet from a fan read.
It wasn’t just the players that took the heat for the way that Clark was treated in the first part of the season. After Taurasi, Carter, and even Geno Auriemma who had said: “The delusional fan base that follows [Caitlin Clark] disrespected the WNBA players by saying she’s gonna go in that league and tear it apart,” the entire league itself has found itself under fire time and again.
Between snubbing her from the Olympic roster and not getting her name and stats right in a social media post, more than a few were ready to highlight Clark being disrespected.
