Paige Bueckers gets snappy when asked about Caitlin Clark’s dominance: “You just answered it”

The highly anticipated WNBA showdown between Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers ended in a lopsided Indiana Fever victory and an awkward postgame moment that quickly went viral.

Although fans were eager to see the two No. 1 overall picks and college icons face off as professionals, only one came out looking like the future of the league – and Bueckers wasn’t thrilled to talk about it.

Clark, the reigning Rookie of the Year, led the Fever to a dominant 102-83 win over the Dallas Wings. She finished with 14 points, a whopping 13 assists, and a career-high five steals – most of which came at Bueckers’ expense.

The UConn legend turned the ball over four times, as Clark routinely read her like a book on defense. Despite putting up a game-high 21 points and showing flashes of brilliance, Bueckers was clearly rattled by the postgame narrative.

Bueckers put a reporter in his place

When asked about Clark picking her off multiple times, the Dallas star responded with a tense nod and a clipped reply: “You just answered the question. She’s obviously just a very smart basketball player, so she’ll get out and deny passing lanes… but yeah.”

The exchange lit up the media, with analysts dissecting both the body language and tone. Some defended Bueckers, pointing out that the reporter’s question left little room for nuance. Others felt the moment underscored the growing pressure of being compared to Clark – a media darling and lightning rod who continues to dominate headlines.

To her credit, Bueckers didn’t lash out, as others might have in the same position. She answered the question with restraint, even if her frustration was clear. But one thing is certain: this won’t be the last time she’s asked about Clark. And if Sunday’s game was any indication, the comparisons are only going to intensify.

Paige better start getting used to it

Clark may have been quieter on the scoreboard, but her presence was undeniable. Her playmaking, defensive anticipation, and command of the floor spoke volumes. In contrast, Bueckers looked like she’s still catching up to the pro pace – or perhaps just stuck on a team not quite ready to contend.

One thing’s for sure: Clark vs. Bueckers is no longer just a college rivalry – it’s the WNBA’s next big headline.
