Paige Bueckers gets rough with an old friend on the court and it ends in a totally unexpected way

At first glance, it looked intense. Just moments before tipoff, during the pregame warmups ahead of a matchup between the Dallas Wings and the Minnesota Lynx, Paige Bueckers was going through her usual routine shots from deep, light drives, fully locked in. Then she noticed a familiar figure passing near the three point line, and what happened next instantly caught attention.

Without warning, Bueckers lunged forward and delivered what looked like a hard shove. For a split second, it felt serious: the timing, the force, the surprise. Anyone watching could’ve thought tensions were boiling over before the game even started. But the moment didn’t escalate. Instead, it flipped completely.

What looked tense turned playful fast

The player she shoved was Dijonaï Carrington of the Minnesota Lynx. Almost immediately, both broke into smiles and shared a private handshake, one clearly practiced long ago. What looked rough at first was actually playful, a greeting only old friends would understand.

Their history explains everything. Paige Bueckers and Dijonaï Carrington go back years, long before the WNBA, crossing paths through elite basketball circles and high level competition. Bueckers rose to national stardom at University of Connecticut, where her poise, scoring touch, and creativity defined her game. Carrington built her reputation as a fierce, physical defender at Baylor University and later University of Connecticut, sharpening her edge against top competition. Different styles, same fire and a mutual respect forged through years of battles at the highest level.

For Bueckers, now navigating her rookie season with the Dallas Wings, the moment also showed how comfortable she already feels on a WNBA floor. Even with the pressure of game day, she hasn’t lost the joy or personality that made her one of the most recognizable faces in the sport.
