Paige Bueckers’ Dallas Wings are at the bottom of the WNBA standings, but there is hope

The Dallas Wings finished the regular season with the worst record in the WNBA (10-34) along with the Chicago Sky, ending their season early.

This not only left the team with no chance of qualifying for the playoffs, but also led to coach Chris Koclanes being removed from his position. However, 2026 could take a different course -or not- according to a power ranking.

Wings receive bad and good news

Without a doubt, the biggest impact on the Wings was the arrival of Paige Bueckers to the team. The first overall pick in the draft has been a key player this season, and although victories were few and far between, the former UConn Huskies player left no doubt about her talent.

She was named 2025 Rookie of the Year, started in the All-Star Game, and surpassed her scoring high by reaching 40 points in one game. Just to name a few accomplishments.

Meanwhile, ESPN expert Michael Voepel made a Way-Too-Early WNBA Power Rankings for the 2026 season, a year in which two expansion teams, the Toronto Tempo and Portland Fire, are also expected to join the league with their respective players and coaches.

Voepel ranked the Wings 12th out of 13, and, as in the final WNBA standings, behind Paige and her teammates is the Chicago Sky.

However, while aware that the franchise will not attract free agents, the analyst highlighted the advantage of having Bueckers on the team and explained that they have two valuable opportunities: “They have a chance to get another No. 1 pick in 2026 and will have a new coach after Chris Koclanes was let go after just one season.”

Meanwhile, looking ahead to the 2026 WNBA Draft, Dallas could add Spanish star Awa Fam or Lauren Betts from UCLA. However, one name and option that has resonated strongly is UConn point guard and former Bueckers teammate Azzi Fudd, with whom she has been romantically linked.

Considering that the chemistry between the two on the court is undeniable and that they even won the NCAA title together before Paige joined the WNBA, Azzi could be a great option for a team under construction like Dallas.
