As US presidential election season approaches, many high-profile figures are vocalizing their political allegiances. Among them is NFL legend Brett Favre, who has openly thrown his support behind 45th US President Donald Trump.
Favre, a long-time supporter of Trump, recently showed his loyalty by sharing a video in which Trump announced plans to discuss using Elon Musk‘s Starlink to aid North Carolina following Hurricane Helene.
Favre’s support, however, has been met with both admiration and criticism from fans and the public. Despite suffering from numerous injuries throughout his 20-year NFL career, Favre’s current health struggle is with Parkinson’s disease.
He revealed his diagnosis during a congressional hearing, sparking an outpouring of support from fellow athletes, including Aaron Rodgers and Mike McDaniel.
While many sympathize with Favre‘s health challenges, his continued backing of Trump has sparked controversy, leading to a wave of both praise and condemnation.
Criticism Mounts as Favre’s Trump Support Becomes Public
Not everyone is supportive of Favre‘s political stance. A recent tweet from the former quarterback read, “If you’re born in the USA or an American citizen and you put other countries above us, then that’s unpatriotic. That’s it.”
While some followers agreed with the sentiment, others were quick to criticize. YouTuber Brian Tyler Cohen took a shot at Favre, referencing the welfare funds scandal involving the NFL star,
He wrote: “Wild to be lectured about patriotism by the guy who just stole $1 million in welfare funds from the poorest people in his state.”
Although Favre denies any wrongdoing, the investigation remains ongoing.
Favre’s past also resurfaced when Jenn Sterger, the former New York Jets game day host who accused Favre of sending inappropriate texts in 2008, commented on his Parkinson‘s diagnosis.
Sterger tweeted, “I don’t wish bad things on anyone, but I know Karma never forgets an address.” The comment served as a reminder of the unresolved resentment stemming from that incident, even though the matter was settled years ago.
As the 2024 elections near, Favre‘s unwavering support for Trump will likely draw further scrutiny.
While his battle with Parkinson‘s has garnered sympathy, his political choices have also polarized public opinion, leaving the football legend to navigate the challenges of both health and politics in the public eye.
