Oscar De La Hoya warns of a ‘more dangerous’ Ryan Garcia when he returns to boxing

Ryan Garcia’s suspension after testing positive for Ostarine in his 2024 fight against Devin Haney is almost two months away from coming to an end and, with it, he is set for a return that his promoter Oscar de la Hoya has already warned will be explosive, as the hunger he has to return will make him a more dangerous boxer.

“I’m telling you, Ryan Garcia, when he boxed Devin Haney, he was a very dangerous Ryan Garcia. But this time, now that he’s been out for a year, now that he’s really looking forward to getting back in the ring, we’re going to see a very, very, very dangerous Ryan Garcia in that ring every time he fights,” De la Hoya told DAZN in an interview on Saturday during the card that featured the knockout victory of Parral’s Oscar ‘La Migraña’ Duarte over Miguel ‘Explosivo’ Madueño, organized by Golden Boy Promotions in Anaheim, California.

De la Hoya praises Turki Alalshikh

KingRy will be part of the card for the event that His Excellency Turki Alalshikh will organize in New York on May 2, although according to a report by Boxing News 24, fans have some doubts about whether he will really be ready to give a good performance after 13 months out of action, especially after looking unkempt after posing in a photo with Eddy Reynoso, his new trainer, where some suspected that he seemed to still be partying.

“Turki Alalshikh wants to put on the biggest event possible for boxing,” De la Hoya said, acknowledging that they will be part of the event. “We can’t wait to see what Turki Alalshikh decides to do with Ryan Garcia and with us as promoters. Ryan Garcia is ready to come back. He’s hungry, he can’t wait.”

Golden Boy has hinted that they plan to do great things with Ryan Garcia when he returns from suspension, although his next opponent has yet to be confirmed. It could be Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, former WBA welterweight champion, who was knocked out by Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz in 2024. A greater challenge to demonstrate De La Hoya’s ‘threat’ would be to face someone like ‘Rayo’ Valenzuela or Richardson Hitchins
