Oscar De La Hoya has doubts about Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr fight

The event on June 28 is one of the most popular in recent months, as it is not only the return of Jake Paul, a media figure who moves masses of all ages, to the ring since his fight against Mike Tyson, but also brings us the return of a former middleweight boxing champion to the ring, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr

A fight that, for better or worse, has caught the attention of many people, including Oscar de la Hoya. Oscar had already revealed his prediction for the fight between Paul and Chavez Jr., stating that after a close battle, Jake Paul will win by split decision in the 12th round. However, he does not want to completely rule out Chavez Jr.

What did Oscar De La Hoya say about the fight between Paul and Chavez?

In a clip shared by DAZN on Instagram, De La Hoya said:

Julio Cesar Chavez went 12 rounds with Canelo. He’s a former world champion, a world champion in boxing. So this is a real, legitimate fight

However, Paul fought Tommy Fury in February 2023 and, more importantly, lost that fight, which is still considered by many to be his only legitimate boxing match.

Even so, Oscar continued:

I obviously wonder what version of Chavez Jr. we will see. Will he be in great shape? Will he be out of shape? Will he make weight? There are a lot of questions about that, but in the end, one has to say: Jake Paul, congratulations. This is a real, first and legitimate former world champion you are facing.

Despite Oscar’s claim that this will be Jake Paul’s first legitimate fight, it is important to note the significant 11-year age difference between the two. In addition, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has not fought in more than a year, and his overall presence in the ring has been inconsistent. Long periods of inactivity and a history of erratic performances have greatly reduced his chances of actually beating Jake Paul.

What is clear is that on June 28 we will see an entertaining fight between two boxers with two completely different realities, one young and ambitious, who after several controversial fights is looking to make a statement to finally cement his current legacy and career, while the other will seek to overthrow the young star to stop his rise once and for all.
