One performance was enough: Jaxson Dart rises among OROY favorites; the New York Giants quarterback is off to a strong start

We all knew that at some point Jaxson Dart would take control of the New York Giants’ offense-after all, he’s a first-round pick. However, Russell Wilson was ahead of him on the depth chart. Everything moved faster than expected, and the Ole Miss product has already made his first start-and did it in impressive fashion. First start, first win, both for him and the franchise in 2025.

The Giants’ first offensive series against the Los Angeles Chargers was an explosion of joy among fans at MetLife Stadium, after Jaxson Dart ran 15 yards into the end zone for his first NFL touchdown. He also threw a touchdown pass to Theo Johnson later in the game.

Dart represents a new hope for Giants fans, who hope he can put the team back on the competitive map. Previous potential saviors, like Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley, were unable to turn the franchise around. Since their last Super Bowl win in 2012 against Tom Brady’s Patriots, the Giants have faced many struggles-but Dart’s debut provides renewed optimism.

Jaxson Dart becomes the third favorite for OROY

Immediately after the victory, rookie Jaxson Dart moved up to become the third favorite for Offensive Rookie of the Year (OROY). There’s still a long season ahead and it was only his first start, but with the energy he showed at MetLife Stadium and for delivering the team’s first win of the season, the Ole Miss quarterback is now firmly among the favorites.

According to betting odds, the current frontrunner for OROY is Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, followed by Ashton Jeanty of the Las Vegas Raiders, and then the New York Giants quarterback:

Emeka Egbuka +260

Ashton Jeanty +375

Jaxson Dart +450

Despite being the third favorite, if Dart continues to transform the Giants’ fortunes-especially considering their difficult schedule-there’s little doubt he could rise to the top spot and ultimately win the award, particularly because quarterbacks tend to carry significant weight with analysts.

For now, the Giants are favored in their Week 5 matchup against the New Orleans Saints-a game they need to capitalize on before facing two games against the Philadelphia Eagles and one against the Denver Broncos.
