On the brink of elimination, New York Mets fans demand changes from Carlos Mendoza or his departure

Six weeks from the conclusion of the 2025 MLB season, there is a lot of tension both inside and outside the New York Mets, where the power of the New York bats is cold and therefore the spirits of their fans have heated up, but to demand the dismissal of manager Carlos Mendoza, where he has the team half a game out of the wild card zone against the threat of Cincinnati Reds.

Queens fans know they have one of the highest payrolls in Major League Baseball so in terms of investment they should be dominating the National League East. However, the lead is in the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies, who already have a comfortable six-game lead over the Mets. Their enormous $339 million payroll has allowed them 74 bullpen debacles, the worst mark in the league, according to FanGraphs, through Aug. 11.

Disasters abound in the New York Mets’ rotation

The Queens team was swept by the Milwaukee Brewers, lost to the Atlanta Braves and is now at the mercy of the Seattle Mariners, who have also mistreated them. On August 15, the offense delivered as it has done on few occasions, with Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto hitting home runs to take a good lead. But then the bullpen collapsed, as it often does in its history. For the second consecutive night, the Mets’ bullpen, including Ryan Helsley and Tyler Rogers, newcomers at the trade deadline, faltered and gave up a late lead.

After the nine innings, the Mets lost 11-7 and after the game, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza spoke to the media. “In short, we have to start playing better. Especially when you take the lead, you have to control those games. There’s too much talent back there. They’re going through a bad patch right now. Our job is to get them back on track,” he said. It’s the same phrase that has frustrated fans too many times and they stress that it’s not May for him to have to say those statements.

Mets fans’ demands to their board

A sad and terrifying statistic for the Mets is that they have lost 14 of their last 16 games. The pessimism abounds when the start of the season was happiness. Today, the situation is radically different. The Mets’ impressive lead has vanished, and they are now struggling to stay in playoff contention, clinging to a tenuous half-game lead for the last wild-card spot. In addition, the manager’s words have plunged the fans into immense frustration.

After Carlos Mendoza’s statements, whether it is a defeat in April or August, the verdict of the fans is as follows: “Stop saying the same thing. Do something,” said one fan. Another commented: “Too much talent, going through that. The same lines after every game.” The fans’ observation is not an exaggeration. After the defeats in the week, the Mets manager stressed that there is too much talent and they will have to go out and play and do it. “I’m going to keep saying that we have the talent, we have the players.”
