Omar Bravo was replaced by a Mexican sports legend as ambassador for the 2026 World Cup, while presenting alleged evidence of his innocence

Both downcast and joyful reactions have permeated the case of Omar Bravo, the former Chivas Rayadas del Guadalajara soccer player who was linked to proceedings for allegedly sexually abusing a minor. However, whatever society’s stance on this fact, the reality is that life does not stop, so Guadalajara announced who will replace the accused as ambassador of the 2026 World Cup.

In the context of the case, it is important to note that the Jalisco State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) confirmed the judicial decision that forces the former Chivas striker to remain in preventive detention for six months. The initial hearing, held on October 10, lasted for hours until the judicial authorities determined that there was sufficient evidence to prosecute the former rojiblanco striker.

Omar Bravo allegedly lent alleged victim $325,424

The case of former footballer Omar “N”, a historic Chivas Guadalajara striker, continues to attract attention in Jalisco after he was charged on October 10, 2025, with the alleged crime of aggravated child sexual abuse. While the prosecution maintains that there is sufficient evidence to keep the case open, the former player’s defense claims that the evidence against him is not solid.

Omar supported that family (…) he lent them (…) $325,424

Daniela Bravo, the former striker’s younger sister, said her brother is the victim of alleged fraud orchestrated by his ex-partner’s brother, to whom he allegedly lent around $325,424 months before being denounced. “I have no doubt that this is an economic issue. Omar supported that family for years. He lent them money, approximately $325,424, and they never paid it back.”

Bravo’s sister also questioned the strength of the accusations, claiming that there is documentary evidence to prove that Omar was not at the scene on May 10, 2019, the date stated in the complaint. “He was in Los Mochis with me and my family. We have photos, reservations, boarding passes and witnesses. I even allowed an expert to check my cell phone to validate the dates,” she explained.

Lorena Ochoa is new Ambassador of Guadalajara in World Cup 2026

Former Mexican golfer Lorena Ochoa, considered one of the most important athletes in the history of national sport, has been appointed as the official ambassador for the Guadalajara venue for the 2026 World Cup, which Mexico will host together with the United States and Canada. The appointment comes after the dismissal of Omar Bravo, who was removed after facing accusations of child sexual abuse.

Faced with this situation, FIFA and the Organizing Committee decided to give the representation of Guadalajara to Ochoa, a respected figure in the sport, whose image reflects the spirit and hospitality of Guadalajara. During the presentation, Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro, together with the president of Liga MX, Mikel Arriola and Ivar Sisniega, president of the FMF, announced the appointment of the tennis player as ambassador and representative.
