Oleksandr Usyk refuses to fight the ‘new Mike Tyson’

Since Oleksandr Usyk, the Ukrainian boxer, who has a record of (24-0, 15 KOs) knocked out Daniel Dubois in July 2025 to regain his undisputed heavyweight title with a resounding victory at Wembley Stadium, regaining the IBF belt he lost in 2024, information is expected about his next fight.

The WBO ordered Oleksandr Usyk to fight interim champion Joseph Parker, but negotiations did not go well, as Usyk declared that he was injured and would need some time out of the ring. Parker will therefore fight Fabio Wardley in London on October 25, 2025.

Oleksandr Usyk returns to training

Oleksandr Usyk revealed that he is back in training, but said he will not face Itauma (13-0, 11 KOs). “No, I will not fight Itauma. He is young… he always teases me. And he himself said that he does not hit grandfathers,” Usyk told Ready to Fight. “I can’t say who exactly, because negotiations are ongoing. I would be lying if I gave you a name.”

The 38-year-old also said he plans to return to the ring in 2026, but his opponent has yet to be decided. “I will fight until I am 41 years old. Then I will build a sports academy; I will train there and train others,” he concluded.

The “new Mike Tyson”

Moses Itauma is considered one of the most promising prospects in world boxing, with 11 knockouts in 13 fights. He achieved another resounding victory in his last fight, a first-round knockout over Dillian Whyte in August 2025.
