Oleksandr Usyk reclaims undisputed heavyweight crown vs Daniel Dubois

On Saturday, at Wembley Stadium before a massive crowd of around 90,000, Oleksandr Usyk delivered a commanding fifth-round knockout over Daniel Dubois to become the undisputed heavyweight champion once again. Usyk chowcased superior technique, precision, and movement, picking Dubois apart before landing a crushing left counter that ended the bout. The Ukranian star reclaimed the IBF title, reuniting it with his WBA, WBC, and WBO belts. On a day with other great fight in Pacquiao vs Barrios, it looks like Usyk will steal the attention with his amazing knockout.

Tactical brilliance: Usyk’s precision outclasses Dubois’ power

From the opening bell, Usyk used his southpaw stance to control range with sharp jabs and footwork. Dubois rallied, but Usyk landed a massive right that floored Dubois, and a follow-up left caused the referee to call it off at 1:52 into the round. At 38, Usyk showed that age hasn’t slowed his ring IQ or skill, once again proving his status among the sport’s elite.

Next steps for Usyk and Dubois

Dubois, gracious in defeat, praised Usyk’s dominance and vowed to bounce back, marking his record as now 22-3. Meanwhile, Usyk (24-0) stated he intends to rest with family but didn’t rule out future fights against top contenders like Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, Derek Chisora, or Joseph Parker. The WBO has already ordered a mandatory matchup with Parker, setting the stage for Usyk’s next challenge.

This heavyweight spectacle cements Usyk’s legacy as one of the all-time greats and fuels anticipation for his future bouts. Dubois, meanwhile, remains a top young contender with much left to prove.

British talent shines in undercard of Usyk vs Dubois

The supporting bouts added depth to the evening’s drama. Heavyweight Lawrence Okolie beat Kevin Lerena by unanimous decision. Light-heavyweight Daniel Lapin secured a surprising majority decision over Lewis Edmondson, surviving two rope slips in round seven. The event showcased emerging talents and set a dynamic stage for the heavyweight main event.
