Dave Roberts‘ team managed to get one of the best rotations in MLB up and running heading into October. The Los Angeles Dodgers will head into the postseason with a strong roster and a clear strategy. The rotation is led by several figures, such as Shohei Ohtani, who was singled out as the best, however, the Japanese rejected the honor and gave the credit to another teammate.
Their rotation is loaded with stars such as Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow. On MLB Network, former major leaguer Sean Casey made a bold statement after that. He pointed to Ohtani’s elite 1.91 Fielding Independent Pitching (FIP), which suggested he was the best pitcher in baseball by innings by a wide margin
Shohei Ohtani praises Yoshinobu Yamamoto
Ohtani himself rejected the honor Casey spoke of. When asked about the team’s ace, Ohtani had no hesitation in saying: “As for Yoshinobu, I think he was the only one who essentially kept the rotation going all year and pitched all season, so I think he’s the ace of the team.”
The Dodgers clinched the National League West title with a victory over the D-backs on September 25, where Shohei Ohtani’s $325 million teammate threw six brilliant scoreless innings for his 12th win and 201st strikeout with a 2.49 ERA.
Ohtani hit his 54th home run in Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks
Los Angeles Dodgers’ Japanese star Shohei Ohtani hit his 54th home run of the season on Thursday, as the Los Angeles Dodgers won Major League Baseball’s National League West Division by thrashing the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-0
Ohtani’s 54th home run equaled his best mark in a single campaign and the Dodgers franchise record he set last year, when he became the first MLB player to record 50 home runs and 50 steals in the same year. He is two home runs behind Kyle Schwarber of the Philadelphia Phillies, the National League’s leading scorer.
