The Kansas City Chiefs are once again evaluating their wide receiver corps, and veteran standout Odell Beckham Jr. is increasingly being discussed as a possible addition. With uncertainty swirling around the Chiefs’ current pass-catching options, Beckham‘s name has surfaced as a low-risk veteran target who could provide stability and leadership if signed for the 2026 season.
Kansas City’s receiving room is anchored by young talents like Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, and Tyquan Thornton, but none of the trio currently inspires complete confidence. Rice‘s role has fluctuated amid inconsistent usage and offfield issues, Worthy missed three games last season and finished with 44 catches for 532 yards, and Thornton‘s contribution was limited, recording only 19 receptions in 2025.
That combination has fueled speculation the team may pursue an experienced playmaker to complement this youthful group, even if that means looking beyond internal options or the draft.
The suggestion that Beckham could be a target in Kansas City stems in part from a recent CBS Sports piece naming the 33-year-old as an intriguing veteran alternative if the Chiefs choose not to reunite with former star Tyreek Hill.
Beckham, a two-time AllPro and one of the most electrifying receivers early in his career, hasn’t played in the NFL since December 2024. That season, he caught just nine passes for 55 yards with the Miami Dolphins before being waived, then spent the entire 2025 season unsigned while serving a sixgame suspension.
Veteran presence could provide needed stability
Despite that, Beckham has made it clear he still wants to return to the NFL in 2026. In an interview with Kay Adams, he said he is “looking forward to hopefully getting an opportunity to play this year” and sees his comeback as just beginning. While his time away from professional football raises questions, Beckham has shown signs of his skills.
At the Fanatics Flag Football Classic, he pulled in a one-handed catch in the back of the end zone while double-covered, a small but telling display that he still has the athleticism that made him a superstar.
Kansas City is not the only team monitoring Beckham‘s situation. A reunion with the New York Giants, where he began his career, has also been mentioned. Giants’ head coach John Harbaugh recently acknowledged the possibility of exploring Beckham as an option, keeping the former star’s NFL future open and flexible.
“The obvious pat answer would be you look at every option, and if Odell is an option, we’ll be looking at him for sure,” said Harbaugh.
As for the Chiefs, Rice, Worthy, and Thornton all have potential, but none have consistently demonstrated the combination of availability and production needed to carry the passing game on their own. In that context, signing a proven veteran like Beckham might not simply be an optional upgrade.
With the wide receiver landscape in Kansas City still uncertain, Beckham‘s potential return represents a storyline worth watching closely as the 2026 season approaches.
