Not only because of Dillon Gabriel, the Oregon Ducks have become a major headache for Shedeur Sanders

Unless a major surprise happens, it seems that by the end of the season the Andrew Berry era as general manager and Kevin Stefanski as head coach will come to an end. Team owner Jimmy Haslam will have two first-round picks in the upcoming NFL Draft, and it’s highly likely he’ll want to start a new regime.

To be fair, Berry and Stefanski did bring positives to the franchise. Since the Browns returned to Cleveland, the team had only two winning seasons with a playoff berth before their arrival. Under their leadership, the Browns made the playoffs twice and even won a postseason game in 2020 – something they hadn’t done since 1995.

The downfall, however, began with one bad decision: moving on from Baker Mayfield in 2021 to sign Deshaun Watson for $230 million guaranteed. Today, Mayfield is an MVP candidate with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while Watson remains injured and widely considered a disappointment.

Now, the Browns might target another quarterback from Oregon

In the last Draft, Cleveland selected two QBs – Dillon Gabriel from Oregon in the third round and Shedeur Sanders from Colorado in the fifth. Gabriel is currently the starter, but he has struggled in his first two games.

Realistically, it’s hard to imagine the Browns’ long-term future depending on Gabriel or Sanders. According to ESPN’s Jordan Reid, in his latest mock draft, the Browns – holding the third overall pick – are projected to select another Oregon product: Dante Moore, who has been improving every week.

This season, Moore has thrown for 1,396 yards, 15 touchdowns, and just 3 interceptions with the Oregon Ducks. He’s projected to be a first-round pick thanks to his prototypical size (6’3″, ~205 lbs), strong arm, and ability to make accurate vertical throws. NCAA insiders see in him the traits NFL teams covet in a franchise quarterback.

There’s still a long way to go, but it’s highly probable the Cleveland Browns will draft a new quarterback. Still, fans are eager to see what Shedeur Sanders can do – if he truly has the talent he claims and manages to shine with the Browns, things could get very interesting.
