Nikola Jokic threatens long-awaited LeBron James reunion: Will the Nuggets poach this NBA champion?

What seemed like a foregone conclusion for a former NBA champion has been thrown into disarray. While LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have been preparing to potentially reunite with Kevin Love, another Western Conference powerhouse has emerged as a serious contender for the veteran forward’s services.

According to Denver Post insider Bennett Durando, the Denver Nuggets are a possible landing spot for Kevin Love if, as expected, he is bought out by the Utah Jazz before the 2026 season begins.

Love, who was traded to the Jazz in a July multi-team deal, is not a good fit for the young, rebuilding franchise, making a buyout the most likely outcome.

A divided Love

A reunion with LeBron James has long been seen as the veteran’s preferred path. The two won a championship together with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016 and have remained good friends.

Reports indicated a mutual interest in joining forces again at the end of their careers, especially with the Lakers making significant roster changes to support their superstar duo of James and Luka Doncic.

However, the Nuggets present a fascinating alternative. Love has a previous relationship with Nuggets head coach David Adelman from their time together in Minnesota.

Jokic could tip the balance in this drama

More importantly, the opportunity to play alongside three-time MVPNikola Jokic could prove too enticing to pass up. With the Lakers’ roster built around the newly transformed Doncic, Love might be more inclined to join a team with a clear role for him.

Only time will tell where Love decides to go. His desire to play in a “glamour market” like Los Angeles may be a key factor, but the chance to compete for a title with a dominant force like Jokic could make Denver a tough offer to beat.
