Nick Sirianni reacts when asked about Jalen Hurts’ importance: That’s bulls***

Nick Sirianni is not one to mince words, especially when it comes to defending his quarterback. During a recent appearance on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast, the Philadelphia Eagles head coach was asked if Jalen Hurts “carried” the team to Super Bowl LVII in 2023. His response was as blunt as it was emphatic: “That’s bulls**t.”

Sirianni’s passionate reaction made it clear he believes football is the ultimate team sport and that the Eagles‘ success in reaching the Super Bowl was a collective effort, not the work of one individual – no matter how talented.

“Everybody contributed. Did Jalen play his ass off in the Super Bowl? Absolutely. But that’s such an insult to guys like [Jason] Kelce, [Lane] Johnson, and [Haason] Reddick,” Sirianni said.

“This was a team that fought every single game.”

Quarterback remains vital to team identity

Still, there’s no denying that Hurts was a central figure in Philadelphia’s NFC Championship run. He passed for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns while adding 13 scores on the ground. His performance in the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs – where he totaled four touchdowns – was nothing short of heroic.

But Sirianni’s strong comments seem to stem from a desire to protect the team dynamic and push back against narratives that reduce success to one man. “When people say one guy carried us, it disrespects the entire building,” he said.

Hurts has become the face of the franchise, but he’s also known for humility and his own team-first mindset – something that aligns perfectly with Sirianni’s philosophy.

As the Eagles aim to return to the Super Bowl this season, Sirianni’s comments underscore the message that they’ll do it as a team – or not at all.
