Nick Sirianni bans the “R” word-Why the Eagles aren’t focused on a Super Bowl repeat

With the 2025 NFL season fast approaching, fans and analysts are already speculating about the Philadelphia Eagles’ chances of competing in a second consecutive Super Bowl. But according to head coach Nick Sirianni, that’s the worst mistake his team could make.

This week, the Eagles will host their Super Bowl LIX ring ceremony-a celebration of February’s triumph over the Kansas City Chiefs. Yet for Sirianni, the event marks not just a milestone, but a turning point. He’s made it clear: the word “repeat” is off-limits.

Sirianni wants his squad to prioritize “sustained success,” not chase a duplicate achievement that’s now in the rearview mirror. For the head coach, it’s the present that counts.

Sirianni’s blueprint for success

“You can either be right where you are, or you can look at it like, ‘How are we going to get back to the Super Bowl?’ Error,” Sirianni told NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Dave Zangaro. He doubled down on the point: “Resting on your laurels and resting on your past accomplishments? Error.”

While acknowledging that past victories can boost confidence, Sirianni warned against letting them become distractions. “There are things pulling you in different directions because of the success,” he said.

Instead, he urges his players to focus entirely on the moment. “It’s just making sure that you’re focused and locked in on where you are each individual day. I know that’s boring, but success takes what it takes.”

What awaits the Eagles in 2025

Philadelphia has made the playoffs four years running, with two Super Bowl appearances. But the road ahead is steep: they face one of the toughest schedules in the NFL. In addition to divisional matchups, they’ll take on powerhouses like the Chiefs, Bengals, and Rams.

Still, with stars like Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown, and Jalen Carter embracing Sirianni’s mindset, the Eagles are poised for a fifth straight postseason-and maybe another Super Bowl run. Even if Sirianni won’t call it that.
