Iconic former New York Jets center Nick Mangold made an urgent and heartfelt plea to the public on Tuesday, revealing that he is in need of a life-saving kidney transplant and is actively searching for a donor.

In a statement posted to social media, the 41-year-old franchise legend disclosed a health battle he has been fighting in private for nearly two decades.

“In 2006, I was diagnosed with a genetic defect that has led to chronic kidney disease,” Mangold wrote. “After a rough summer, I’m undergoing dialysis as we look for a kidney transplant. I always knew this day would come, but I thought I would have more time.”

Mangold remains optimistic

Mangold, a New Jersey resident, specified that he is in search of a donor with Type O blood, as his family-who he called “my rock every step of the way”-is unfortunately unable to donate at this time.

He shared information for potential donors to see if they are a match, asking them to use his full name, Nicholas Mangold, and his birthdate of 1/13/1984.

Despite the difficult circumstances, the Jets Ring of Honor inductee is remaining optimistic. “While this has been a tough stretch, I’m staying positive and focused on the path ahead,” he wrote. “I’m looking forward to better days and getting back to full strength soon.”

Nick Mangold was the soul of the Jets’ OL for 10 years

An Ohio State graduate, Mangold was the anchor of the Jets’ offensive line for his entire 10-year NFL career after being drafted in the first round in 2006.

A seven-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro, he started every one of the 164 games he played and is widely considered one of the greatest players in franchise history.
