Veteran NFL safety Keanu Neal, 29, has decided to call it quits after eight memorable seasons. Drafted in the first round by the Atlanta Falcons in 2016, Neal made an immediate impact and later showcased his skills with the Dallas Cowboys, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Pittsburgh Steelers.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Neal thanked everyone who supported him along the way. Reflecting on nearly 20 years of football, he acknowledged that every challenge and triumph helped shape him into the player-and person-he is today.

Neal’s breakout moment came in 2017 when he recorded a career-high 116 tackles over 16 games and earned his first Pro Bowl nod. That season, his dynamic play and relentless effort turned him into one of the league’s most respected defensive forces.

However, the journey wasn’t without setbacks. Neal battled severe injuries during his time with the Falcons, suffering both ACL and Achilles injuries in consecutive seasons. These tough breaks tested his resilience and even led to a brief switch from safety to linebacker when he joined the Cowboys in 2021-a move that showcased his adaptability on the field.

Neal’s final huddle: A legacy of resilience and gratitude

After his stint with the Cowboys, Neal returned to his roots as a safety with the Buccaneers and Steelers. His last NFL chapter was cut short following his release by the Steelers last March, leaving him with 523 tackles, four interceptions, and eight forced fumbles-numbers that highlight a solid career cite.

In his farewell message, Neal expressed genuine gratitude toward all the organizations that gave him a chance. He thanked the Falcons for drafting him and recognized the support from the Cowboys, Buccaneers, and Steelers, as well as the guidance of coaches, teammates, and his family.
