NFL team cancels Shedeur’s private workout: Are they leaning towards another high-profile quarterback?

The spotlight was on Boulder, Colorado, this past Friday as the Colorado Buffaloes hosted their highly anticipated Pro Day, featuring Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Both prospects showcased their elite abilities, solidifying their standing as top talents in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Among the notable attendees were several decision-makers from the Tennessee Titans, including general manager Mike Borgonzi, president of football operations Chad Brinker, and offensive coordinator Nick Holz. The Titans, who hold the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, witnessed Sanders in action alongside Hunter during the event. Sanders impressed with his accuracy and arm strength, while Hunter wowed observers with his crisp route-running and explosive athleticism.

Following the Pro Day, the Titans made a decisive move regarding Sanders’ evaluation. According to Jim Wyatt of the Titans’ official website, a private workout scheduled between the Titans and Sanders has been canceled. Borgonzi explained the reasoning, noting the extensive scouting the team has already conducted, “Shedeur threw the ball well, and we got to see him out there with Travis. Watching him live today just confirms a lot of what we saw on tape.”

They seem to have their mind made up

While Sanders remains a top prospect, the Titans appear to be narrowing their focus on selecting Miami’s Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick. Ward, widely viewed as the best quarterback in the class, has drawn rave reviews from scouts for his pocket presence, arm talent, and decision-making. Tennessee’s recent private workout with Ward reinforced their belief in his capabilities, with mock drafts now heavily favoring Ward as the top selection.

For Sanders, the cancellation of the private workout does not diminish his stock as a top quarterback prospect. An executive praised Sanders’ ability to throw a “catchable ball” and lauded his composure during the Pro Day’s two-minute drill, noting that his performance validated his potential as a starting NFL quarterback.

As the Titans finalize their strategy for the draft, it seems increasingly likely that Ward will be the first name called. However, the Pro Day showcased the depth of talent in this year’s quarterback class, ensuring that Sanders and Hunter will remain key storylines as the countdown to the draft continues.
