The NFL offseason is usually dominated by free agency signings and roster moves, but broadcaster Melanie Collins recently proved that she can still capture the spotlight even when football games are months away. The longtime sideline reporter for CBS Sports generated significant attention online after sharing a workout selfie with her followers.

Collins, who has built a large social media following during her broadcasting career, posted the photo to her Instagram account, where she has more than 173,000 followers.

As a renowned figure on TV screens for sports fans, Collins has to be comfortable in front of the camera interviewing some of the biggest stars in American sports.

And she certainly didn’t shy away from showing off her figure in the reflection, as she posed in front of a full-length mirror at the gym.

The image showed her in an all-black workout outfit during a gym session, quickly drawing widespread reactions from fans and sports media viewers.

While the selfie fed into the hype online, it also highlighted the quieter stretch of the football calendar.

As NFL franchises focus on reshaping their rosters through free agency and offseason planning, broadcasters like Melanie Collins are enjoying a brief break before preparations begin for the next season.

How did Melanie Collins become famous?

Her journey to becoming one of the most recognizable sideline reporters in the sport involved years of experience covering major global events.

Before joining CBS Sports, Collins worked for both Yahoo! Sports and ESPN.

During that time she reported from a wide range of high-profile competitions, including the NBA Finals, the FIFA World Cup, the Winter Olympics, and the World Series.

Her broadcasting background also includes studio work. While at ESPN, Collins served as a fill-in host for popular programs such as SportsNation and First Take, further expanding her presence across multiple sports platforms.

According to her professional biography, Collins built a strong academic foundation before entering the industry.

“A graduate of the John Curley Center for Sports Journalism at The Pennsylvania State University, Collins has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism and earned a second degree in Interior Design from the New York Institute of Art and Design,” the biography states.

Before her promotion to the NFL broadcast team in 2018, Collins gained experience working as a sideline reporter for college football and college basketball on CBS Sports Network.

A mainstay on NFL broadcasts

The 2025 campaign marked another busy year for the experienced reporter. CBS Sports originally hired Collins in June 2018, and she has since become a familiar face on the network’s NFL coverage.

Her final assignment of the 2025 season took place at Lumen Field, where she covered the matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and the Seattle Seahawks.

Over the past several seasons she has been part of a broadcast team featuring play-by-play announcer Kevin Harlan alongside color commentator Trent Green.

With the offseason underway, Collins appears to be balancing downtime with personal fitness while continuing to connect with fans online. For now, the viral gym selfie has kept her firmly in the public conversation.

As preparations slowly begin for the 2026 campaign, Collins is expected to return to her familiar role on CBS Sports, where she will once again patrol the sidelines throughout another NFL season.
