NFL referee takes brutal hit during Super Bowl LX as Seahawks seal historic win over Patriots

An NFL referee unexpectedly became the center of attention during Super Bowl LX after taking a hard hit from behind and sliding face down across the field. It was a completely unexpected moment, when suddenly the referee could be seen falling and skidding several inches along the turf.

The sequence unfolded in real time. As the play developed, a New England Patriots player collided with the referee from behind. The impact sent the official sprawling forward, sliding several inches across the grass before coming to a stop. On video, the slide looked dramatic and even briefly comical to some viewers though it was clearly an unexpected and painful moment for the referee involved.

Referees are trained to stay clear of the play and remain aware of their surroundings to anticipate situations like this, but the speed and chaos of the Super Bowl leave virtually no margin for error. In this case, the official was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, and the collision happened before anyone could react.

Jason Myers makes history as Seahawks control the game

Super Bowl LX ended with a historic coronation: the Seattle Seahawks were crowned NFL champions after defeating the New England Patriots 29-13 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The victory ended an 11 year title drought and served as revenge for the unforgettable Super Bowl XLIX on February 1, 2015, when the Patriots won 28-24 on a decisive goal-line interception in the final seconds that denied Seattle a championship.

This year’s game was a testament to Seattle’s dominance from the opening moments. Kicker Jason Myers set a new Super Bowl record by converting five field goals, while the Seahawks’ offense both on the ground and through the air kept constant pressure on the Patriots throughout the night.
