NFL RedZone shake-up as Scott Hanson’s future is revealed

For 15 years, football enthusiasts have eagerly tuned in to NFL RedZone, knowing they’d be treated to “seven hours of commercial-free football” every Sunday. This iconic phrase, coupled with the dynamic and engaging presence of host Scott Hanson, became a staple of the football viewing experience. However, this era is seemingly coming to an end, as Hanson is now negotiating a deal to leave NFL RedZone.

After the expiration of his contract with NFL Media at the conclusion of the 2024-25 NFL season, talks between Hanson and the network have reportedly come to a standstill. The seasoned host is now in discussions with NBCUniversal, where he is being eyed for a return as the primary prime-time host for the Gold Zone during the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics and possibly the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics.

Hanson previously brought his signature enthusiasm and energy to NBC’s Gold Zone during the 2024 Paris Olympics. His performance garnered praise from fans and NBC executives alike, with NBC Olympic production president Molly Solomon commenting, “Scott brought his inimitable enthusiasm and energy to Gold Zone. NFL fans loved watching him transfer his ‘all-in’ mentality from football Sundays to the Paris Olympics.”

A takeover that will change everything

As ESPN prepares to take over operations of NFL Media and NFL RedZone in 2025, following the league’s equity stake purchase in the sports media giant, there are speculations that the network might prefer to introduce its own talent as the new face of RedZone.

This potential change has not been well-received by fans, who have taken to social media to express their dismay. “Losing Scott Hanson on RedZone would be a tragedy,” one fan posted on X. Another fan echoed, “If Scott Hanson leaves RedZone, then that takes a huge hit to RedZone.”

Hanson’s departure from NFL RedZone marks the end of an era for the popular program. His unique style and engaging presence have made him a beloved figure among football fans. As he transitions to new opportunities, his legacy at RedZone will undoubtedly be remembered fondly by viewers who have spent countless Sundays with him at the helm.
