NFL legend’s proposal to welcome Juan Soto to the Bronx in the Subway Series

The two MLB teams from New York, the Yankees and Mets, will play the first Subway Series of the year starting next Friday, May 16 in the Bronx, home of the Bronx Bombers, with both teams currently sitting atop their respective divisions.

And the fans at Yankee Stadium are beginning to prepare to give Dominican Juan Soto the “welcome he deserves”, which is easy to predict and has been encouraged by a former NFL player, but who is a symbol for the city of New York as is the former New York Giants player, Tiki Barber.

Barber’s proposal to bring Soto to the Bronx

The former running back, who has the most yards in the New York team’s history, urged Bronx fans to turn their backs on Soto in protest as he heads to right field.

Soto preferred a more lucrative contract with the Mets rather than signing with the Yankees, with whom he reached the World Series in 2024, so it is very likely that the reception will not be very pleasant.

Barber spoke on the subject alongside Keith McPherson on the show “Foul Territory” on radio station WFAN, and McPherson himself said he will be the first to boo Soto.

“We’re going to need reinforcements; we’re going to need help because this environment is going to be outrageous. It’s going to be crazy. It’s going to be a real movie,” so the first Subway Series of the season promises to be a real treat.

Soto’s start to the season with the Mets was not the best, but the Dominican slugger has been waking up little by little, and in May he has hit for an average of .346 at bat and an OPS of 1.339.

On Wednesday, against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Soto hit two home runs in the Mets’ 7-1 victory, and now the Dominican will have to prove that if the Yankees fans turn their backs on him, he can have the answer to have the last word with his batting power.
