NFL legend questions Drake Maye ahead of Super Bowl: “I don’t like him”

Without a doubt, the debate over which of the two finalists will win the Super Bowl is something that keeps thousands of NFL fans on tenterhooks.

The New England Patriots will face the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 9, at Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco. Many fans already have their favorite candidate, including a Hall of Famer who knows he can’t root for Drake Maye and company.

NFL legend questions Patriots QB

Drake is having a season that has made him a strong MVP candidate. He recorded 4,394 passing yards and 31 touchdowns, leading the team to a 14-3 record.

In the postseason, in the Wild Card game against the LA Chargers, Maye threw for 268 yards and one touchdown, while in the AFC Divisional Round matchup against the Houston Texans, the 23-year-old quarterback completed 15 of 25 passes for 171 passing yards and threw three touchdowns.

He recently completed 10 of 21 passes for 86 yards and no touchdowns during the AFC Championship game against the Denver Broncos, but his legs made the difference: he ran for 65 yards and scored the team’s only touchdown, and the game ended favorably for the Pats, 10-7.

However, this does not seem to be enough for Hall of Famer Champ Bailey, who made his position clear in a conversation with Kay Adams on her podcast “Up & Adams”:

“I can’t pick against Seattle,” Bailey said, explaining, “The reason I say that is their defense is solid, their offense is explosive.” He also called Kenny Walker an “unsung hero” in Charbonnet’s absence, stating that “he is a weapon.”

However, when it came time to analyze the Seahawks’ opponent, Champ did not mince words and said honestly: “On the flip side, I don’t like how Drake May has played in the playoffs. He’s been great throughout the season, but he hasn’t had to win games. The pressure hasn’t been on him.”

In addition, the 12-time Pro Bowl selection warned that, unlike the game against the Broncos where his legs were the stars, Maye will have to approach the game against Sehawks differently: “I don’t see that working against Seattle. He has to find a way to put points on the board because they’re not just going to shut Seattle’s offense down.”

Meanwhile, this is the first time the Patriots have reached the Super Bowl since the Tom Brady and Bill Belichick dynasty. However, they are not the favorites to win according to BetMGM (-5), DraftKings, and theScore (-3.5).

The game will start at 6:30 p.m. ET and can be seen on Peacock, the network’s official service, as well as on live streaming platforms such as Fubo, Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, and NFL+. In addition, Fubo will offer a free trial period, allowing many fans to enjoy the event at no additional cost.
