NFL insider provides update on Jaxson Dart’s progress with New York Giants: Will rookie start at quarterback?

Jaxson Dart, the New York Giants’ rookie quarterback, has been making notable strides in his early NFL journey.

While he’s not expected to start in the upcoming season, his progress in two critical areas has caught the attention of both coaches and analysts. According to ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler, Dart’s grasp of the mental aspects of the game has been impressive.

Late in the Organized Team Activities (OTAs), Dart began to demonstrate a solid understanding of the team’s offensive cadence, Coach Brian Daboll’s expectations, and effective decision-making.

“I was told from somebody with the team that late in OTAs, things finally started to click for Dart, as far as the mental portion of the game – learning the cadence, what Brian Daboll wants out of the offense, decision-making,” Fowler said, as reported by On3. “He carried that over into minicamp.”

Dart himself acknowledged his growth, stating, “I feel like I’ve made tremendous strides, especially from my first day to now, just being able to understand the pictures of the offense.”

Quick learner and highly motivated

He emphasized his commitment to continuous improvement, aiming to elevate his performance during the summer to be better prepared for training camp.

Beyond his mental acuity, Dart has impressed coaches with his ability to learn quickly and his strong motivation. These attributes have been crucial as he adapts to the professional level.

Head coach Daboll has intentionally challenged Dart with complex plays to assess his adaptability, and the rookie has responded positively, maintaining composure and demonstrating growth.

Fowler highlighted these qualities, noting that Dart’s rapid learning and motivation are key factors in his development.

The Giants’ coaching staff is taking a patient approach, allowing Dart the time he needs to adjust and refine his skills without the pressure of immediate starting responsibilities.

A long-term plan for the Giants

The Giants have implemented a multi-year development plan for Dart, focusing on gradual progression rather than immediate impact.

With veteran quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston on the roster, Dart has the opportunity to learn and develop without the immediate pressure to perform.

This approach mirrors the strategy used by the Buffalo Bills with Josh Allen, where a patient development plan allowed Allen to evolve into a top-tier quarterback. While Dart’s path may differ, the emphasis on long-term growth over short-term results is a shared philosophy.

Jaxson Dart’s early development with the New York Giants reflects a promising future. His progress in understanding the mental aspects of the game and his ability to learn quickly are commendable.

With continued support and a structured development plan, Dart has the potential to become a significant contributor to the Giants in the coming seasons.
