The NFL Combine is an event organized by the NFL that allows scouts and coaches to evaluate the top collegiate prospects available for the Draft. The intention of the Combine is to evaluate the top players to analyze their abilities and compare their respective performances.

The number of athletes per position varies each year, depending on the talent available, but does not exceed a total of 335 athletes

To participate in the Combine, players receive an invitation from the 32 teams that make up the league. Each team submits its list of eligible prospects, which is reviewed and voted on by a player selection committee to invite each eligible athlete

Which players are eligible to participate in the NFL Combine?

To be eligible to participate in the Combine, all college seniors participate immediately after their final year of college eligibility. Also eligible are underclassmen who declare themselves eligible to enter the draft and meet all NCAA and NFL requirements

An athlete who is not playing in the NFL may also participate under special circumstances, as long as it correlates with their natural draft year if they were playing in the NCAA

During the Combine, players undergo different evaluations, both of their general physical abilities and specific skill tests for each position, including the 40-yard dash and vertical jump, as well as a series of interviews with coaches.

The events in which the athletes participate are:

  • 40-yard dash
  • 225-pound bench press
  • Vertical jump
  • Long jump
  • 20-yard shuttle
  • Three-cone drill
  • 60-yard shuttle
  • Specific exercises for each position
  • Interviews (each team can conduct 60 interviews at 15-minute intervals)
  • Physical and injury assessments
  • Drug screening test
  • Cybex test
  • Wonderlic Test
