Neymar grew tired of the speculation and rumors surrounding his health. The Santos forward suffered a muscle strain due to excessive fatigue in training, which forced him to sit out Tuesday’s March 10 match between Mirassol and Santos on the fifth day of the Brasileirao.
Carlo Ancelotti had planned to attend the game to observe him closely and confirm his name on the preliminary list of players called up for Brazil’s friendlies ahead of the World Cup. Now, the #10 has come out to put a stop to the criticism and “made-up stories.”
Ney breaks his silence
“Since there are a lot of people creating theories about what is happening with me: nothing is happening,” said the former PSG player in a video he shared on his social media accounts.
Ney has not played for the Brazilian national team since October 17, 2023, and has recently rejoined Santos after knee surgery to treat a medial meniscus injury.
He was expected to return for the Canarinha’s friendlies prior to the tournament, where his name appeared on a preliminary list to face France on March 26 in Boston and Croatia on March 31 in Orlando. Carletto was going to watch him play against Mirassol, but he decided not to play and not to risk aggravating the injury.
Of course, this decision did not sit well with 100% of the fans, and, assuring that it is “very difficult to get it right and please everyone,” Neymar continued with his statement and in the same recording said: “If I play injured, as they said last year, I’m wrong. If I think only of myself, I’m wrong. If I take care of myself, I’m wrong. If I play with pain or with something that could get worse, I’m wrong. It’s complicated, huh?” he questioned.
“It’s the people who seem to be by your side every day and start making up stories as if it were the greatest truth in the world and they were the owners of reason,” Neymar added. “It’s very complicated to be me, my goodness. I have to be patient to put up with them, you know?“
Ancelotti has repeatedly insisted that all players must be “100%” fit to be called up. For this reason, Neymar will have one last chance to convince the coaching staff this coming Sunday, March 15, when Santos faces Corinthians in the Brazilian national championship at the Urbano Caldeira stadium, as on Monday, the 66-year-old Italian coach will announce the squad for the international friendlies.
In the meantime, we will have to wait and see if Ney will finally return to play for the Brazilian national team.
