With the 2025 NFL Draft inching closer, scouts and analysts are digging into film, evaluating performances, and drawing player comparisons between top college prospects and established NFL greats. These comps offer insight into how these athletes might transition to the professional level and what kind of impact they could have in the league.

Among the most closely watched names are Colorado‘s two-way star Travis Hunter, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, and Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter.

Each of these players has carved out a unique identity in the college game, yet they also bear striking similarities to past or current NFL standouts in terms of style, skillset, and upside. While no comparison is perfect, they provide a helpful lens through which to assess each player’s NFL potential.

These college stars are being compared to NFL legends and rising pros

Travis Hunter, the dynamic cornerback and wide receiver from Colorado, has captivated the nation with his rare ability to dominate on both sides of the football. His elite agility, ball skills, and high football IQ make him a legitimate two-way threat at the next level-something the NFL hasn’t seen in a long time.

Others have also drawn comparisons to Hall of Famer Charles Woodson and perennial Pro Bowler Patrick Peterson for his coverage ability and awareness. These references underscore how special Hunter’s potential truly is. Very few prospects in recent memory have offered this level of versatility and elite athletic profile.

Meanwhile, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders is making waves of his own. As the son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, he entered college football with a spotlight on him-and has lived up to the hype. Known for his calm presence in the pocket, precise passing, and leadership, Shedeur is being evaluated through the lens of some well-known NFL signal callers.

Another standout heading toward the NFL is Abdul Carter, a fierce edge rusher from Penn State who has scouts excited due to his explosiveness and ability to play in multiple defensive alignments. Carter has been a difference-maker for the Nittany Lions and is often compared to one of the school’s most successful NFL exports.

As draft season intensifies, these comparisons continue to fuel excitement and debate. While each player is writing their own story, seeing echoes of legends such as Champ Bailey, Jared Goff, and Micah Parsons only heightens expectations for what’s to come. These young stars may be the next wave of franchise-changing talent ready to shake up the NFL.
