Newly released video shows Richard Sherman’s tense arrest after late-night traffic stop

Newly released dashcam footage has revealed tense moments from Richard Sherman‘s February 2024 arrest in Washington, offering an unfiltered look at how the former NFL star’s second DUI case unfolded.

The video, obtained by TMZ Sports, shows the former Seattle Seahawks cornerback being pulled over late at night before officers performed field sobriety tests and ultimately placed him under arrest.

According to police, Sherman was stopped after he was spotted speeding and swerving in his Tesla near Maple Valley, Washington. The footage shows multiple state troopers arriving at the scene and quickly identifying the driver.

“Did you see who it was? Richard Sherman from the Seahawks,” one officer says to another, acknowledging the 36-year-old’s NFL fame.

Sherman reportedly told police he had consumed “two margaritas” earlier in the evening. Officers then administered a series of field sobriety tests, which he appeared to struggle with. He later refused a breathalyzer test, prompting police to obtain a warrant for a blood sample.

According to prosecutors, lab results showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.11, over the legal limit of 0.08.

As the situation escalated, the video captured Sherman‘s growing irritation. When an officer placed him in handcuffs, the former Pro Bowl defender could be heard repeatedly complaining that he was being held too tightly.

His frustration continued as he was escorted to a squad car, where he appeared to eventually fall asleep in the back seat.

Sherman receives deferred prosecution after second DUI

Sherman‘s February 2024 arrest marked his second DUI case in less than three years. In his first incident, back in 2021, he was charged with negligent driving, criminal trespass, and speeding after a late-night altercation at his in-laws’ home that was caught on security camera. That case ended with community service, fines, and mandatory counseling.

In the more recent case, Sherman reached a deferred prosecution agreement last month. As part of the deal, he admitted that his actions that night stemmed from a substance use disorder and agreed to undergo two years of treatment.

He also acknowledged that the police report “contains sufficient information to support a finding of guilt.” In return, he avoided jail time but will remain on five years of probation. If he completes the program successfully and avoids further legal issues, the DUI charge may eventually be dismissed.

While the legal ordeal continues, Sherman has remained a visible figure in football circles. He has continued working as an analyst on Amazon Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football, where his on-camera insight has earned praise from both fans and colleagues.

Once one of the most feared defenders in the NFL, Sherman built his legacy as a leader of the Seahawks‘ “Legion of Boom” defense, helping guide Seattle to a Super Bowl title in 2014 and becoming one of the era’s defining voices in the game.

Now, as he faces the consequences of his off-field struggles, Sherman‘s story serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly a career defined by discipline and determination can be overshadowed by personal battles.

The newly released video offers a glimpse into a difficult chapter for one of football’s most accomplished and outspoken stars, and a man still working to rebuild beyond the spotlight.
