New York Yankees fans are nearing a point of no return. They can’t stand seeing their team in its current state, especially after all the moves made before the MLB trade deadline. What seemed poised to improve hasn’t, and their patience is wearing thin.
After reaching the World Series last year, the Bronx Bombers are struggling so badly that they might even miss the MLB postseason, and Aaron Boone is one of the main targets of blame amid the team’s crisis.
Fans demand immediate changes, and Jorge Posada’s name emerges
Monday’s loss to the Texas Rangers could add more fuel to the fire, potentially sparking a firing. The Yankees suffered their fourth consecutive defeat, and the pressure is mounting on Aaron Boone. It’s no secret that he’s accountable for the team’s losing record since June 1, leaving them 5.5 games behind the American League East Division leader.
In this scenario, fans are loudly calling for Boone‘s dismissal, using social media to launch a campaign for Jorge Posada to take the helm of the Bronx Bombers.
“Jorge Posada as the next Yankees manager,” reads one post circulating on X. “Boone has a low baseball IQ,” another user added. “Someone like Posada would put you in your place and hold you accountable.”
Jorge Posada, a former player and Yankees legend who played as a catcher and won four World Series titles, represents something the Yankees haven’t achieved since 2009. However, he has never served as a manager or been part of an MLB coaching staff, much like Aaron Boone when he joined the team as an ESPN analyst.
“I want nothing more in life than for Posada to be the manager; he’s my favorite player of all time,” wrote one Yankees fan, “but that’s never going to happen.”
Despite Jorge Posada‘s name frequently popping up on social media, there are no signs that the Yankees are considering hiring him or that he has any intention of becoming a manager. His resume includes experience in the Miami Marlins‘ front office, and he technically managed one MLB game when he filled in for Joe Torre in the final game of the 2007 season, leading the team to a 10-4 victory over Baltimore-a win officially credited to Torre.
Brian Cashman has only had two managers since becoming the Yankees’ general manager in 1998: Boone and Joe Girardi.
