New York Mets take drastic measures: Carlos Mendoza’s coaching staff fired after disappointing season

The New York Mets have delivered one of the biggest disappointments of the MLB season, failing to secure a postseason berth and finishing behind in the regular-season standings. In response to the team’s underwhelming performance, the front office has taken decisive action, parting ways with several members of the coaching staff. The move signals a major shake-up as the Mets look to reset under manager Carlos Mendoza and rebuild for next season.

Although the New York Mets finished second in the NL East, just behind the Philadelphia Phillies, they ultimately fell short of a postseason berth. The team closed the regular season with an 83-79 record and a .512 winning percentage, placing sixth overall in the National League standings, not enough to secure a playoff spot.

Although much of the blame for the team’s struggles has fallen on manager Carlos Mendoza, he is expected to remain in his position. However, several of his coaching staff are paying the price for the disappointing season. It has been confirmed that five members of the staff will not return, raising questions about who will fill those key roles heading into next year.

Members of New York Mets coaching staff dismissed after disappointing season

This week, Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns addressed the future of the team’s coaching staff, acknowledging that changes were on the horizon. “It’s normal after any season to do a coaching staff evaluation,” Stearns said. “When you come off a disappointing season like this, it’s certainly going to be a little more intense.” His comments signal that the organization is preparing for significant adjustments following its postseason miss.

According to the New York Post, the Mets are expected to part ways with several key members of their coaching staff. This information was confirmed by the same team. Pitching coach Jeremy Hefner, hitting coaches Eric Chavez and Jeremy Barnes, bench coach John Gibbons, and third base coach Mike Sarbaugh are all reportedly set to leave the organization ahead of next season.

The moves mark a fresh start for the Mets, whose 83-79 record fell short of playoff contention. With several coaching positions now vacant, the organization is poised for a major reset as it looks to build a stronger foundation for the future.

Eric Chavez shared on his Instagram story the news that confirmed he is leaving the team. “So thankful for my time w the Mets. Thank you to the Cohen’s. Best owners in baseball. And especially the players. That group is super special and they worked their asses off. Be grateful in every situation. On to the next.” He wrote.

The MLB playoffs are delivering all the drama and intensity fans expect

Meanwhile, across town, the New York Yankees are preparing to face the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS, after eliminating the Boston Red Sox in the previous round. The Bronx Bombers enter the series with momentum, looking to continue their postseason run and push toward another World Series appearance.

In other postseason matchups, the Chicago Cubs will take on the Milwaukee Brewers, while the Seattle Mariners face the Detroit Tigers. One of the most anticipated series will feature the Philadelphia Phillies going head-to-head with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
