New York Mets reveal important details about the transfer market: These are their “untouchable” players

For years, the New York Mets have been known to give in to the temptation to trade away their most promising prospects in search of immediate results. Thinking long-term is fine, but the priority for the New York team is the now, and this has been evident in several past transfer windows.

However, this time the team will reportedly take a different approach, as according to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the club has identified four players as “untouchable” ahead of the 2025 trade deadline.

Players who, no matter what happens, would not leave the institution as they are cornerstones for the future, prospects they want to keep at all costs: Nolan McLean, Jonah Tong, Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat.

Who are the Mets’ top prospects?

Jett Williams, at just 21 years of age, stands out for his defensive versatility and offensive consistency (.280 batting average and .394 on-base percentage).

Jonah Tong has surprised with an effectiveness of 1.83 in Double-A, consolidating himself as one of the jewels of the system.

Nolan McLean has also stepped up as a starter at Triple-A, and while Brandon Sproat has had an up-and-down year, his last outing shows signs of recovery.

This new approach suggests a more strategic long-term view, breaking with past decisions such as the trades of Pete Crow-Armstrong or Scott Kazmir that proved costly in retrospect.

Who are the New York Mets going to hire in 2025?

Although the Mets refuse to include their top prospects in negotiations, the team is aware of the need to strengthen its rotation and bullpen.

In this context, the name of Zac Gallen of the Arizona Diamondbacks has begun to make waves.

Which team will Zac Gallen play for in 2025?

The pitcher, with an ERA of 3.34 between 2020 and 2024, is considered one of the most attractive pieces on the market.

It is estimated that his next contract could be worth around $116 million over six years, a considerable investment even for a team with resources like the Mets.

According to journalist Jeff Passan, New York could look for a trade involving players such as Zach Thornton and Jesus Baez, thus avoiding parting with its most coveted talents. The team’s recent drop in effectiveness (4.08 in the last 10 games compared to 3.56 on the season) reinforces the urgency to add reliable arms without compromising its future.
