A victory is capable of healing even the deepest wounds. If you don’t believe it, ask Mike McCarthy. The Dallas Cowboys head coach had one foot out the door, but his victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 16 seems to have restored the confidence of team owner Jerry Jones.
The Cowboys entered the game on Sunday with a record of 6-8, with no chance of making the playoffs. Despite this, the team gave everything on the field and won 26-24, leaving them at 7-8 and still with a chance of signing a winning season.
As expected, the fans celebrated the victory with great fanfare; however, nowhere was it more intense than in the Dallas locker room. At the end of the game, a video shows Jones talking animatedly with McCarthy, raising hopes of an eventual contract renewal for the coach.

The video showing the reconciliation
Until a few days ago, most analysts believed that McCarthy was about to leave the team. However, the video widely circulating on social media shows Jones giving his head coach a hug and exchanging a few words after the victory.
“There’s many things that have gone into us sitting here not in the playoffs and you can start with me,” said Jones in the post-game presser. The Cowboys boss admitted that both the victories and the defeats are the responsibility of the entire team, but praised the commitment and professionalism that all of them showed against the Buccaneers.
“Boy, you give that kind of effort, that kind of professionalism,” praised Jones. He recognized the effort of his players, saying, “Those guys came out and played as if they were fighting for a championship game to go to a Super Bowl.”
Fans are thrilled with Jerry and Mike’s hug
The video generated positive reactions among Cowboys fans, starting with reporter Clarence Hill Jr., who said, “Mike won’t let Jerry quit him,” and another fan backing him up by saying, “That man getting extended.”
Another jokingly said, “This is what job security for the next 5 years looks like,” and yet another noted, “McCarthy and Zim both deserve to be back next year.” With two games still to go and given Jones’ unpredictable nature, it’s best not to get too excited and hope that time will sort everything out.
