New twist in Trevon Diggs’ Cowboys drama as final straw for organization is exposed

The Dallas Cowboys have known their 2025 season was done and dusted for a few weeks now. Despite a promising midseason stretch, the team’s flaws started to really show up once December hit. The defense, once again, became a massive problem and it led to three straight convincing losses.

Everyone expected the Cowboys defense to struggle all season, especially once Jerry Jones traded away Micah Parsons right before the season began. The only way to truly offset that loss would be manufactured pressure and a return to All-Pro form for cornerbacks DaRon Bland and Trevon Diggs. Bland played okay this season, but Diggs is another story, and that’s without mentioning a concussion he suffered from an at-home incident that knocked him out of several games alongside a knee injury.

Diggs’ tumultuous season culminated in his release by the team this week. It was clear there was no future for Diggs in Dallas, so the Cowboys parted ways and are letting him latch on with a team for a potential playoff run – if anyone actually wants him on the field for the postseason.

Trevon Diggs got cut for skipping team flight and attending Shy Glizzy concert

A lot of things went wrong for Diggs with the Cowboys franchise after he signed a mega deal back in 2023. Never-ending knee issues sapped his ability while causing him to miss a ton of games. But it was seemingly an off-field “incident” that was the final straw for Dallas. Following the team’s win over the Washington Commanders on the road in Week 17, Diggs stayed in the area to attend a concert of a friend, rapper Shy Glizzy. That didn’t sit well with the team.

The Cowboys reportedly wanted Diggs to fly back with the team to Dallas on Thursday night/early Friday morning. Diggs would then have had to fly to Washington, D.C. once again the next day to attend the concert. Logistically, that wouldn’t make sense, but the team wanted the cornerback to celebrate and be with his teammates on the way back following a nice win.

Diggs made his decision to stay in the area and attend the concert. That was apparently the motive Dallas needed to put an end to their relationship. It was going to happen in the offseason, regardless.
