New twist in investigation into death of Brett Gardner’s son: Miller may have had bad reaction to medication

The investigation into the death of Brett Gardner’s youngest son, has taken a dramatic turn.

Authorities in Costa Rica indicated that the 14-year-old may have had an adverse reaction to medication, according to Radar Online.

Initially, the child’s tragic death was attributed to “asphyxia due to food poisoning,” said the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ).

Subsequently, that probable cause was ruled out because there was no airway obstruction in Miller.

This has led investigators to focus on whether Miller was allergic to any of the drugs he was given.

After having dinner on Thursday night, the whole family fell ill when they returned to the Arenas Del Mar resort, where they were staying.

Radar Online details that although the family meal was not held at the resort, the hotel reported that a licensed physician was sent to “manage the emergency”.

“Our protocol at Arenas Del Mar does not allow hotel staff to provide medication to guests,” the hotel said.

Although the family is eager for answers about Miller’s death, they will have to be patient as the autopsy could take two to three months, the outlet added.

The investigation into the teenager’s death is being led by the Quepos police, who have already begun to interrogate the employees of the luxury hotel, which costs $900 a night.

According to the statement released by Brett Gardner and his wife Jessica, Miller Gardner died in her sleep on Friday morning. After the painful loss, the couple says they “have so many questions and very few answers at this time.”

“We are deeply grateful to all those who have offered us support and encouragement during this difficult time, and we are confident that our faith, family and friends will help us cope with this unimaginable loss. Our prayers are with Miller’s classmates and friends, as well as all the other families who have lost a child too soon, and we share their pain.“
