Antonio Brown’s possible future now includes decades behind bars – far more than anyone initially realized.
The former Pittsburgh Steelers star, already facing a second-degree attempted murder charge in Miami, may be staring down a mandatory 20-year prison term and a maximum sentence of 30 years after new legal details surfaced ahead of his formal arraignment.
For months, it had been widely assumed that Brown’s worst-case scenario topped out at 15 years, the standard upper limit for a second-degree felony in Florida.
But according to a source with deep expertise in Florida criminal law, the circumstances of Brown’s case elevate the potential punishment dramatically – thanks to the state’s strict “10-20-Life” statute.
How long could Brown spend in prison?
Because Brown is accused of discharging a firearm during the alleged attempted murder, the charge escalates to the equivalent of a first-degree felony sentence range. That means prosecutors could pursue up to 30 years in prison, with a mandatory minimum of 20 if convicted.
These enhanced penalties stem from a violent confrontation at a celebrity boxing event in Miami in May 2025. Police say Brown punched a man, took a gun from a security guard, and chased the victim before firing two shots.
According to The Washington Post, newly obtained video shows Brown sprinting toward the man moments after throwing a punch and then discharging the weapon. The victim told authorities the bullets grazed his neck during the chaos.
Brown insists he acted in self-defense.
Brown’s escape and extradition
After the shooting, Brown fled the scene and evaded police before abruptly leaving the country. He resurfaced in Dubai, where he openly flaunted his lifestyle on social media as Miami-Dade Police continued their search. Earlier this month, he was located, arrested, and extradited to the United States.
This week, Brown pleaded not guilty and was placed on house arrest while awaiting trial. Monday’s arraignment is expected to make the full scope of his potential sentence unmistakable.
For a player who once dominated NFL headlines for his on-field brilliance, the road ahead now looks far darker – and far longer – than previously understood.
