NBA star in contract dispute sides with Micah Parsons, warning Cowboys about “Paying the man”

The Dallas Cowboys’ training camp just took an explosive turn as superstar defender Micah Parsons announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he is demanding a trade from the organization. In a lengthy post on Friday, Parsons detailed a laundry list of grievances, including mishandled contract negotiations and a fractured relationship with the front office.

“Unfortunately I no longer want to be here,” Parsons wrote. “I no longer want to be held to close door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization our fans and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me.”

Parsons, who grew up a huge Cowboys fan with dreams of playing for the team, specifically called out the franchise for icing out his agent, David Mulugheta, from contract talks. The public fallout has shocked many fans and analysts, but Parsons did find an unlikely and powerful ally in Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young, who was quick to weigh in.

Young knows what Parsons is going through

Young, who is no stranger to the pressures of being a franchise cornerstone, replied directly to Parsons’ post with a message of strong support. “This why you pay the man early, when someone will take less early to stay in a place he wanted to be forever, you do it… the price only goes up now!” Young wrote. “Get what you deserve bro!”

The public show of support from Young is particularly poignant, as the NBA star is facing his own contract dilemma. Young is eligible for a massive four-year, $228.6 million max extension after the 2026-27 season.

Micah could be a free agent in 2026

If an offer isn’t made before the season begins, Young could become a free agent in 2026. While he has deflected any discussions about his looming contract, his pointed comment to Parsons shows exactly where his sympathies lie.

For now, it appears the dream of Micah Parsons being a Cowboy for life is officially over, with a messy and public split now seemingly inevitable.
