NBA All-Star Game Prize Money 2026: How much are players making for participating?

For years, challenge after challenge, critics argued that the All-Star Game had lost its competitive edge, becoming just a show off for superstars. In response, the league turned the 2026 format into a “U.S. vs. World” three-team round-robin to make sure that the financial incentives remain a compelling reason for the world’s greatest athletes to break a sweat.

While the prestige of being an All-Star is priceless for a player’s legacy, the money they get as a reward provides a tangible reward for winning. Here is a breakdown of how the $1.8 million prize pool is being distributed this year.

The win pays off

Under the 2026 format, the competition is divided into two American teams (USA Stripes and USA Stars) and one World team. The stakes for these 12-minute mini-games are clear:

  • Winners: Each member of the championship-winning team will pocket $125,000.
  • Runners-up: Players on the second-place team receive $50,000.
  • Third place: Even the team that falls short in the round-robin doesn’t leave empty-handed, with each player earning $25,000 just for participating.

Compared to previous years, where the pool was often split between just two squads, the three-team structure ensures that every minute on the court has a dollar value attached to it.

More than trophies

The “All-Star Saturday Night” festivities carry their own specific payouts dictated by the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

  • The slam dunk contest: Historically the weekend’s biggest spectacle, the winner takes home $100,000. The runner-up earns $50,000, while the third and fourth-place finishers receive $25,000 each.
  • The 3-point contest: In an era dominated by the long ball, the winner secures $60,000. Payouts scale down to $10,000 for the eighth-place finisher, ensuring everyone who steps to the rack is compensated.
  • The skills challenge: The winner of this obstacle-course-style event earns $55,000, with the runner-up taking $40,000.

As the 2026 All-Star Game tips off, the players are not just playing for the fans or their brands, they are playing for a winner’s circle that remains as lucrative as it is prestigious. Whether it is the $125,000 check or the bragging rights of the new U.S. vs. World format, the 2026 All-Star Weekend proves that in the NBA, excellence always has a price tag.
